Reynolds signed a contract with the Yokohama Bay Stars on Tuesday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. Reynolds was non-tendered by San Diego after he turned in a 5.33 ERA and 1.37 WHIP over 27 regular-season innings in the majors. Rather than looking to rebound with another MLB organization, the 27-year-old righty will now take his talents to Japan in an effort to give new life to his career.

Non-tendered by Friars
The Padres non-tendered Reynolds on Friday. Reynolds performed well in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League at Triple-A El Paso to the tune of a 2.86 ERA and 1.35 WHIP over 28.1 innings. However, he finished the regular season with a 5.33 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in the majors and will now have to seek out his next opportunity in free agency. No matter where he lands, the 27-year-old righty doesn't project to serve as anything more than a middle reliever.
Sent to El Paso
The Padres optioned Reynolds to Triple-A El Paso on Saturday. Reynolds will lose his place in the big-league bullpen to make room for Randy Vasquez, who was recalled from Triple-A to start Saturday's game against Colorado. Reynolds, 27, owns a 5.33 ERA and 1.37 WHIP through 27 innings in the majors this season but could still make another appearance for San Diego if/when the team needs a fresh bullpen arm.
