Spencer Jones: Breaking News

Jones was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre following Thursday's 2-0 loss to Toronto. Jones will head back to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after going 4-for-24 with no extra-base hits, two RBI and a stolen base over 10 contests with the Yankees since making his major-league debut May 8. The outfielder's departure creates a spot on the major-league roster for Jose Caballero (finger), who is expected to return from the 10-day injured list Friday.

Jones is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays. Jones is just 3-for-20 with 11 strikeouts early on in his first stint in the big leagues, and he's now started only two of the last five contests. Ben Rice is getting a start at designated hitter Wednesday, and Paul Goldschmidt will cover first base for the Bronx Bombers.

Jones is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Blue Jays. Jones will be joined on the bench by fellow left-handed batters Trent Grisham, Austin Wells and Ryan McMahon while southpaw Patrick Corbin toes the rubber for the Blue Jays in the series opener. With Jones taking a seat, Ben Rice will occupy the designated-hitter spot, and the Yankees will run out an outfield of Max Schuemann, Cody Bellinger and Aaron Judge from left to right. Jones is slashing .167/.286/.167 with no extra-base hits and a 3:9 BB:K through his first seven games in the big leagues following his May 8 promotion from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
