Song is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers. After Jake Cronenworth was diagnosed with a concussion May 5 and placed on the 7-day injured list, Song had started at second base in five of the Friars' ensuing six games, but he'll cede the keystone to Fernando Tatis for the second day in a row. Since recording two hits in his first start, Song has gone 0-for-8 with a 2:4 BB:K, and his lack of production may have closed his window for handling an everyday role while Cronenworth is shelved.

Song went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI, a stolen base and two runs scored in Tuesday's 10-5 win over the Giants. Song logged his first career plate appearances in this contest, and he delivered a good performance. The 29-year-old infielder looks to be part of the mix to cover second base in the absence of Jake Cronenworth (concussion), whose placement on the 7-day injured list opened up the roster spot for Song to get promoted. Fernando Tatis is also a candidate to see time at the keystone in Cronenworth's absence, but Song could make a strong case for himself if he strings together a few good games at the plate.

The Padres called up Song from Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. Song's promotion comes as a corresponding move to the Padres placing Jake Cronenworth on the seven-day concussion injured list Tuesday. Since being optioned to Triple-A El Paso on April 27, Song has slashed .292/.346/.458 with a home run, three RBI and a stolen base across 26 plate appearances in five games.
