Timothy Hill: Breaking News

Hill tossed one inning, allowing no runs on two walks, in the 4-2 win over the Rangers on Monday. Hill has been very reliable out of the Yankees bullpen this year, allowing only two runs and accumulating four holds in 12 appearances. The left-hander does not throw a lot of strikeouts, but he produces a lot of groundball outs. The 36-year-old has pitched in several high-leverage situations this season due to the Yankees' lack of options after they let Devin Williams and Luke Weaver sign elsewhere this offseason.

Hill struck out two batters in a perfect inning of relief to earn a hold against the Giants on Friday Hill entered in the seventh inning with a runner on base and New York up 3-0. He kept it that way, fanning two of the three batters he faced and needing just 12 pitches to retire San Francisco in order. Hill's usage was a good indication that he'll be used in high leverage this season. The lefty registered 15 holds in 2025, his highest mark since 2021.

The Yankees exercised Hill's $3 million option for 2026 on Wednesday, Jorge Castillo of ESPN.com reports. Hill has made 105 regular-season appearances for the Yankees since 2024, collecting a 2.68 ERA and 55:25 K:BB over 111 innings. The southpaw reliever posted a 63.7 percent groundball rate and held left-handed batters to a .181/.224/.220 line during the 2025 regular season.
