Tobias Myers: Breaking News

Myers gave up a run on a hit and a walk in 1.1 innings Friday against the Marlins. He didn't strike out a batter. The right-hander tossed 20 pitches (13 strikes) as the opener before exiting the mound. Myers could be headed for another turn in the rotation as an opener next Wednesday against the Reds -- rookie Jonah Tong fired three hitless, scoreless innings in relief Friday and appears ticketed for another turn as a bulk reliever or tandem option. Myers would be a likely candidate to begin that game for the Mets. On the season, the former Brewer has posted a 3.56 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 23:7 K:BB through 30.1 innings.

Myers will start Friday's contest on the mound versus the Marlins, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Myers will make his second start of the year, and it'll potentially be his first in a traditional starter's role. His previous start came as an opener April 20 against the Cubs, tossing a scoreless frame in the team's loss to Chicago. Myers has posted a 3.41 ERA and 1.03 WHIP with 23 strikeouts over 29 innings in 16 appearances, including a start, with New York so far this season.

Myers might get a chance to replace Clay Holmes (fibula) in the Mets' rotation, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. The right-hander started 31 games for the Brewers over the prior two seasons before being acquired as part of the Freddy Peralta trade this winter, but Myers has been used almost exclusively out of the bullpen in 2026 and has yet to throw more than 40 pitches in an appearance, and no more than 25 in his last five outings dating back to May 6. The Mets don't have a day off until May 28, however, so they'll need to decide quickly who will plug the hole in the rotation after Holmes was struck by a comebacker Friday and fractured his right fibula. Prospects Jonah Tong and Jack Wenninger are also options, but both have struggled to find the plate on a consistent basis at Triple-A Syracuse.
