White: Emelianenko Done With Strikeforce

Emelianenko done with Zuffa

UFC President Dana White confirmed on Thursday morning that Fedor Emelianenko’s days as a Strikeforce fighter are over.

White did not specify if Emelianenko has already been released, but said that having your promotion carried by Emelianenko is like having it carried by Kimbo Slice.

Emelianenko suffered his third straight loss last weekend to Dan Henderson. After going virtually unbeaten during the past decade, Emelianenko lost his first bout to Fabricio Werdum last year, followed by a loss to Antonio Silva earlier in 2011. Henderson finished the legendary Russian by TKO in the first round.

While Fedor’s Strikeforce contract concluded with the Henderson loss, he still has a contract with Showtime. The cable network also broadcasts events from M-1 Global – which Emelianenko has a financial interest in – so there’s a possibility that he could continue to fight on Showtime.

We’ll have a video response from White this afternoon in an exclusive interview.
