Lightweights meet on Aug. 4 card at Staples Center

As expected, a lightweight bout between a pair of fighters in need of a rebound from highlight-reel knockout losses has been added to the UFC’s next Fox card.

Joe Lauzon and Terry Etim have been booked for a bout on the Aug. 4 UFC on Fox 4 card, which will take place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The fight booking was first reported in March, but was made official Wednesday night by Lauzon and UFC officials.

Lauzon (21-7, 8-4 UFC) is coming off a devastating February knockout loss to former WEC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis at UFC 144 in Japan. A massive Pettis head kick put Lauzon on the canvas just 1:21 into the first round. The loss snapped a streak of six straight fight night bonus awards for Lauzon – though Pettis got the Knockout of the Night award.

Lauzon had built a two-fight winning streak that included an upset submission win over Melvin Guillard at UFC 136 last October. Amazingly, all 21 of Lauzon’s career victories have been stoppages – including 17 submission wins. And of his seven losses, just one has gone the distance – a unanimous decision loss to Sam Stout at UFC 108. His seven career UFC bonus awards makes him, with three Fight of the Night wins and four Submission of the Night checks, ranks him among the career leaders in the bonus department.

Etim (15-4, 6-4 UFC) is also coming off a head-kick knockout loss. His came courtesy of an Edson Barboza spinning wheel kick at UFC 142 in Brazil in January, which netted the Brazilian a Knockout of the Night bonus. Prior to that setback, Etim had won five of his last six fights – all by submission, including three Submission of the Night awards. Of Etim’s 15 career wins, 14 have been stoppages – with 12 submissions.

Lauzon and Etim have combined for 35 stoppage victories with 29 by submission. They also have combined for 12 UFC fight night bonus awards in their 22 combined bouts for the promotion.

UFC on Fox 4 will be headlined by a middleweight bout between former Bellator champion Hector Lombard, fighting in the UFC for the first time, and Brian Stann. Also booked for the summer card are fights between former light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida and Ryan Bader and heavyweight bouts pitting Ben Rothwell against Travis Browne and Matt Mitrione against Rob Broughton.
