Lauzon vs. Varner Added To UFC on FOX 4 Main Card

Lauzon, Varner meet in L.A.

A lightweight bout between Joe Lauzon and Jamie Varner has been added to “UFC on FOX 4.”

UFC officials today confirmed the match up.

The bout will take place on August 4 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. The lightweight tilt will broadcast live on FOX as a part of the evening’s main card, headlined by a light heavyweight contest between Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Brandon Vera.

Lauzon last competed at UFC 144 against former WEC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis, losing via first round knockout. Prior to the loss, he upset contender Melvin Guillard at UFC 136, earning a first round submission stoppage.

Meanwhile, former WEC champion Varner seemed to have disappeared from the MMA mainstream, making his return to the UFC against Edson Barboza all the more important. Varner stunned the fast-rising prospect with a first round technical knockout win at UFC 146 to reintroduce himself as a UFC lightweight.
