Duane Washington: Breaking News

Cut by Charlotte

The Hornets waived Washington on Wednesday. Charlotte will cut Washington just one week after acquiring him as part of the three-team deal that sent Karl-Anthony Towns to the Knicks and Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo to the Timberwolves. The Hornets mostly took on Washington for salary-matching purposes, as the guard agreed to re-sign with the Knicks on a three-year, $6.97 million contract before he was moved to Charlotte, who also received DaQuan Jeffries, Charlie Brown, three future second-round picks and $7.2 million while giving up only the rights to 2023 second-round pick James Nnaji in the deal. Before he was part of the sign-and-trade deal, Washington was a free agent who had signed a contract with Serbian club Partizan Belgrade. Washington could head overseas now that he's officially a free agent once again.

Shipped to Charlotte

The Knicks have traded Washington, DaQuan Jeffries, Charlie Brown and three second-round picks to the Hornets in exchange for James Nnaji in order to compete a three-team deal that sent Karl-Anthony Towns to New York and Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo to Minnesota, Fred Katz of The Athletic reports. Washington hasn't made an NBA appearance since the 2022-23 season for Phoenix. He is expected to be waived and could rejoin EuroLeague club Partizan in Belgrade, Serbia.
