Garrison Mathews: Breaking News

Waived by Indiana

The Pacers waived Mathews on Friday, Tony East of Forbes.com reports. With the Pacers in need of frontcourt depth due to injuries to Isaiah Jackson (concussion) and Tony Bradley (thumb), the team will cut Mathews in order to sign Micah Potter from the G League. Mathews made 15 regular-season appearances for the Pacers and produced 5.2 points and 1.1 three-pointers in 13.1 minutes per contest.

Earns standard deal

The Pacers will sign Mathews to a standard contract, Tony East of Forbes.com reports Thursday. Following a pair of 10-day contracts, the Pacers will waive Jeremiah Robinson-Earl to create a roster spot for Mathews. Across nine appearances in Indiana, Mathews has averaged 4.8 points and 1.0 three-pointers in 13.7 minutes per contest.

Moving to bench

Mathews isn't in the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Kings. The Pacers are going with Ethan Thompson in the starting backcourt alongside Andrew Nembhard. Mathews has averaged 4.7 points, 0.6 rebounds and 0.6 assists in 13.0 minutes per night over seven games off the bench this season, minimizing what little fantasy appeal he may have had in the first unit.
