Johnny Davis: Breaking News

Let go by Memphis

The Grizzlies released Davis on Thursday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports. Acquired Feb. 6 in a three-team deal involving the Wizards and Kings, Davis never joined the Grizzlies before being cut coming out of the All-Star break. The No. 10 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, Davis has yet to live up to his pedigree, averaging 3.7 points and 1.6 rebounds across only 11.5 minutes per contest over 112 games during his three-year stint with the Wizards. According to Charania, Davis is expected to garner some interest in free agency, and he could end up with a new club before the end of the season.

Remains out for Thursday

Davis (not with team) is out for Thursday's game against the Pacers. Davis, acquired in a three-team trade on Feb. 6, remains away from the Grizzlies. It's unclear when he'll be able to rejoin the team. The 22-year-old's next chance to make his team debut arrives Friday against the Magic, although Davis' absence Thursday is unlikely to impact Memphis' rotation significantly.

Another absence coming

Davis (not with team) won't play Wednesday against the Clippers. Davis was recently acquired from the Wizards, but there's been no indication that he'll suit up for the team anytime soon. His next chance will come after the All-Star break.
