Keita Bates-Diop: Breaking News

Let go by Minnesota

The Timberwolves waived Bates-Diop on Monday. Bates-Diop joined Minnesota as part of the blockbuster deal that sent Karl-Anthony Towns to New York in exchange for Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo. Bates-Diop was Minnesota's final cut to reach the 18-man threshold before the regular season. Given the veteran's track record, he should be an option for any team that suffers early-season injuries or needs a spark defensively.

Headed to Minnesota

The Knicks traded Bates-Diop (shin) to the Timberwolves alongside Julius Randle (shoulder) and Donte DiVincenzo in a three-team deal that also sent DaQuan Jeffries to Charlotte, Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic reports. Bates-Diop was traded from the Nets to the Knicks earlier this offseason but will now return to Minnesota, where he started his NBA career back in 2018-19. Bates-Diop will likely compete for depth minutes in the Timberwolves' forward rotation.

Dealt to Knicks

The Nets are trading Bates-Diop (shin), Mikal Bridges to the Knicks in exchange for Bojan Bogdanovic, Shake Milton, four unprotected first-round picks, an unprotected pick swap and a second-round pick Thursday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. Bates-Diop averaged 3.7 points and 2.1 rebounds in 12.5 minutes across 53 appearances between the Nets and Suns in 2023-24. With OG Anunoby (hamstring), Mikal Bridges, Julius Randle (shoulder) and Josh Hart all featuring ahead of Bates-Diop in the forward rotation, he will likely compete for depth minutes.
