Troy Brown: Breaking News

Cut loose by Detroit

The Pistons will waive Brown on Saturday, James L. Edwards III of The Athletic reports. Brown's $4 million salary for the 2024-25 season would have become fully guaranteed if he remained on the roster by Sunday, and the Pistons weren't interested in keeping him around at that price. The 24-year-old forward has bounced around with five teams over the past four seasons and will now be seeking out a new home in free agency. After being acquired via trade with the Timberwolves in February, Brown averaged 4.2 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists across 19.0 minutes in 22 appearances for the Pistons.

Does little in starting role

Brown amassed four points (1-6 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 2-2 FT), four rebounds, three assists and one steal in 36 minutes during Thursday's 127-105 loss to the Bulls. Brown has started in 10 of the Pistons' last 11 games, but he has failed to reach double digits in all but one of those contests. Even with Cade Cunningham missing his fifth straight game due to a knee injury, Brown attempted just six shots Thursday and missed all three of his threes. Brown did manage to extend his streak of one-plus steals to eight games during Thursday's loss.

Returns to starting lineup

Brown is in the starting five for Friday's game versus the Wizards, Omari Sankofa II of the Detroit Free Press reports. Brown will replace Chimezie Metu in the starting lineup Friday. Brown is averaging 6.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 22.0 minutes across his previous three starts for Detroit.
