Bobby Wagner: Breaking News

Posts 162 tackles at age 35

Wagner recorded 162 tackles (79 solo), including 4.5 sacks, while adding two interceptions among his four passes defensed in 2025. Wagner delivered another excellent statistical season at age 35, tying the second-best totals of his 14-year career for interceptions and sacks while dressing for all 17 games. He has exceeded 100 tackles in every regular season of his career and sits at an even 2,000. Despite his advanced age, Wagner should draw plenty of interest in free agency this offseason if he chooses to continue playing.

Double-digit stops Christmas Day

Wagner logged 10 tackles (five solo), including 0.5 sacks, and one pass defense during the Commanders' 30-23 loss to the Cowboys on Thursday. Wagner played all 92 defensive snaps Christmas Day, which was the second-most in his career (94 defensive snaps in Week 7 of the 2016 season). He combined with Jer'Zhan Newton for a five-yard sack on Dak Prescott midway through the third quarter, bringing Wagner up 2.5 sacks over his last four games. Wagner has accumulated 157 combined tackles through 16 regular-season games, which is currently the fifth most in his 14-year NFL career. Week 18 against the Eagles is Wagner's last opportunity to add to his tackling total.

Full participant Tuesday

Wagner (knee) was a full participant in Tuesday's practice. Wagner did not practice Monday, so his upgrade to full participation Tuesday means he is trending toward playing in Thursday's game against the Cowboys. The veteran middle linebacker has yet to miss a game this season, playing 100 percent of defensive snaps in 14 of 15 games. His continued presence on the field is surely an anchor for the Commanders' defense, and his trend of game-day participation will likely not stop Sunday.
