Dan Skipper: Breaking News

Joins Lions' coaching staff

Skipper retired from the NFL and was hired to the Lions' coaching staff as an offensive assistant Monday. The 31-year-old appeared in 69 career regular-season games across eight NFL seasons with the Lions and Texans. He started 16 of those contests, five of which came last season with Detroit. Skipper also caught a pair of passes during his career, turning them into 13 yards and one touchdown. He'll now learn under coach Dan Campbell and new OC Drew Petzing.

Good to go against Washington

Skipper (back) is active for Sunday's game against the Commanders. Skipper has been cleared to play Sunday after working through a back injury during Week 10 prep. He has appeared in each of the Lions' last three games (including one start) and will provide depth at offensive tackle behind Penei Sewell and Taylor Decker.

Past ankle injury

Skipper (ankle) played in Saturday's preseason game against the Dolphins. Skipper was in a walking boot last month after being injured in the Hall of Fame Game against the Chargers. He logged 35 offensive snaps against Miami. Skipper is set as Detroit's swing tackle.
