Elijah Mitchell: Everything you need to know

The Eagles signed Mitchell on Tuesday. After trying out during Philadelphia's rookie camp earlier this spring, per Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia, Mitchell is now getting a chance to make an impression with the birds as offseason workouts resume. There could be room for legitimate competition in the Eagles' backfield behind Saquon Barkley, as both Tank Bigsby and 2024 fourth-rounder Will Shipley are relatively unproven.

The Patriots cut Mitchell on Tuesday, Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald reports. The 27-year-old running back from Louisiana inked a reserve/future contract with New England in early February, but it now appears the team has decided to move in another direction. Mitchell's last in-game action came with the Chiefs in 2025, when he appeared in one contest and failed to catch his lone target across seven offensive snaps.

The Patriots signed Mitchell to a reserve/future contract Wednesday. Mitchell spent time on the team's practice squad late last season but didn't appear in any games and was ultimately released in January. The 27-year-old also appeared in one game with the Chiefs during the 2025 campaign, playing seven offensive snaps and failing to haul in his lone target.
