Russell Wilson: Everything you need to know

Wilson has accepted an offer to join a television broadcast team Monday in lieu of pursuing a backup quarterback position for the 2026 season, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Wilson had reportedly been offered a contract by the Jets to provide depth behind Geno Smith, but the 37-year-old veteran will instead turn his attention toward a broadcasting career. While it remains to be seen whether Wilson intends to officially retire from the NFL, it appears at the very least that he doesn't intend to suit up during the 2026 campaign. He opened the 2025 season as the Giants' starter but only held onto that gig until Week 3, after which point then-rookie Jaxson Dart took the reins. With Wilson out of the mix, Cade Klubnik, Brady Cook and Bailey Zappe remain positioned as Gang Green's top reserve options behind Smith.

Wilson recently got a contract offer from the Jets, but he said Wednesday that he's undecided between continuing his football career and joining a television broadcast team, NFL.com's Kevin Patra reports. Wilson, 37, would join the Jets as a backup to Geno Smith, who not so long ago served as Wilson's backup in Seattle. The Jets currently have Brady Cook, Cade Klubnik and Bailey Zappe behind Smith on the depth chart, so they may pursue a different veteran QB if Wilson ultimately follows the QB-to-TV pipeline (or chooses another NFL team).

Wilson visited with the Jets on Tuesday, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports. Wilson is being considered as an option to back up Geno Smith after the two quarterbacks previously spent time together in Seattle. Now 37 years old, Wilson doesn't have a whole lot left in the tank and has looked overmatched when forced into game action in recent seasons, but he'd be a solid veteran sounding board wherever he ends up for the 2026 season.
