Tommy DeVito: Everything you need to know

With the Patriots slated to release Joshua Dobbs, DeVito now is the team's projected No. 2 QB, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports. DeVito, who worked as New England's No. 3 signal-caller last season behind Dobbs and starter Drake Maye, signed a two-year deal to remain with the team earlier this month. Per Reiss, the base value of DeVito's new contract is $4.4 million and includes incentives that could increase its value to $7.4 million. Though the 27-year-old didn't see any regular-season action in 2025, he did log a total of eight starts during his two seasons (2023 and 2024) with the Giants. With Dobbs no longer in the mix, look for the Patriots to add QB depth as the offseason progresses, possibly via next month's draft.

DeVito signed a two-year, $7.4 million deal with the Patriots on Friday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Only $2 million of DeVito's new contract is guaranteed, but he's now set to remain in New England after spending his 2025 campaign as the team's emergency third quarterback. The Illinois product appeared in 12 regular-season games with the Giants from 2023 to 2024, completing 145 of his 222 pass attempts for 1,358 yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions. With Drake Maye and Joshua Dobbs both under contract for the 2026 season, DeVito is expected to remain the Patriots' No. 3 QB.

DeVito (coach's decision) is inactive but will serve as the Patriots' emergency third quarterback for Super Bowl LX against the Seahawks on Sunday. As he's done for the whole 2025 season, DeVito will be the emergency QB3 behind Drake Maye and Joshua Dobbs. That means DeVito is prohibited from playing Sunday unless both Maye and Dobbs were to leave the game due to injury, illness or ejection.
