The Seahawks announced Wednesday that Lockett has been released. Lockett, one of the most productive wideouts in Seattle's history, posted a goodbye to the team via his personal social media accounts Wednesday. The 32-year old veteran was slated for a substantial cap hit of $17 million had he remained with the team for the 2025 season, so the writing of his pending release has been on the wall since the start of the offseason. Across 17 regular-season appearances in 2024, Lockett managed a 49-600-2 receiving line on 72 targets, working behind both Jaxon Smith-Njigba and 7.2 for DK Metcalf. Still a capable ancillary contributor, Lockett figures to draw fair interest on the free agent market, though any potential fantasy value for the upcoming season will rely heavily on the target competition of his ultimate landing spot.

Let go by Seattle
Uncertain standing for 2025
Lockett is unlikely to remain with the Seahawks without taking a pay cut, ESPN's Dan Graziano reports. Lockett is one of the team's veteran leaders and ranks second in franchise history with 8,594 receiving yards, but his receiving volume fell off a cliff in 2024 -- 4.4 targets per game in an offense that provided 8.1 for Jaxon Smith-Njigba and 7.2 for DK Metcalf. The 32-year-old now is scheduled for $17 million in 2025 compensation, including a non-guaranteed $5.3 million roster bonus due March 16. Lockett presumably will be released before that date unless he accepts a pay cut, or else an extension that drastically reduces his compensation and doesn't include any/many guarantees beyond 2025.
Targeted four times against Rams
Lockett caught two of four targets for 28 yards in Sunday's 30-25 win over the Rams. Lockett's performance in Week 18 was disappointing, as he was unable to produce much with the four targets he saw come his way. The wideout continued his role as Seattle's No. 3 receiver behind Jaxon Smith-Njigba and DK Metcalf. Lockett's 53 percent offensive snap share in the finale was his lowest share since Week 13. The 32-year-old remains under contract in 2025 before becoming a free agent in 2026. Lockett finished the 2024 campaign with 49 catches for 600 yards two touchdowns, his lowest totals in each category since 2017. The veteran will look to bounce back in 2025, yet he'll likely continue to see an uphill battle for consistent volume with the emergence of Smith-Njigba as a preferred option in Seattle's offense.
Musters up 20 yards
Lockett caught three of four targets for 20 yards in Thursday's 6-3 win over the Bears. Geno Smith threw for a season-low 160 yards in the tight win while Lockett failed to produce more than 22 receiving yards for the seventh straight game. DK Metcalf and Jaxon Smith-Njigba are the focal points of this passing offense, so Lockett's upside will remain limited even in a favorable Week 18 matchup against the Rams.
Two catches in loss
Lockett caught both of his targets for 19 yards in Sunday's 27-24 loss to the Vikings. Though Geno Smith attempted 43 passes on the day, Lockett didn't attract much of the quarterback's attention, as Jaxon Smith-Njigba (12) and DK Metcalf (seven) dominated the targets. With Smith-Njigba becoming a much bigger part of the offense in recent weeks, the 32-year-old Lockett has been mostly an afterthought in Seattle's aerial attack. Since the Seahawks' Week 10 bye, the veteran has recorded just 96 receiving yards over six games.
Snares 22-yard pass
Lockett caught his lone target for 22 yards in Sunday's 30-13 loss to the Packers. Since the Seahawks' Week 10 bye, Lockett has averaged just 15.4 receiving yards per game while failing to find the end zone. Meanwhile, second-year wideout Jaxon Smith-Njigba has been a target hog, tallying a team-high 12 targets in Week 15. It will be tough to depend on Lockett for fantasy purposes moving forward.
No catches in win
Lockett couldn't haul in his only target in Sunday's 30-18 win over the Cardinals. Lockett couldn't haul in an end-zone target, as Cardinals' rookie CB Max Melton blanketed the veteran receiver. Since Week 7, Lockett has produced more than 20 receiving yards just once while Jaxon Smith-Njigba and DK Metcalf received a bulk of the targets. It will be difficult to trust Lockett in fantasy moving forward.
Stays quiet in win over Jets
Lockett (knee) caught all three of his targets for 16 yards in Sunday's 26-21 win over the Jets. Lockett continues to be outplayed by a significant margin by both Jaxon Smith-Njigba and DK Metcalf, who combined for 140 receiving yards against the Jets. The 32-year-old Lockett seems to have lost a step, with 20 or fewer receiving yards in four of his last five games. He'll be tough to trust in a Week 14 rematch against the Cardinals, who just limited Lockett to 20 yards in Week 12.
No injury designation
Lockett (knee) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game at the Jets, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports. Neither does DK Metcalf, who also didn't practice Wednesday or Thursday. It seems the Seahawks were just being cautious with their veteran wide receivers, both of whom are set to play come Sunday.
