Von Miller: Breaking News

Bumps career sack total up to 138.5

Miller recorded 9.0 sacks among his 26 tackles (16 solo) while suiting up for all 17 games in the 2025 regular season. Miller has been reduced to a situational pass rusher at age 36, but he proved effective in that role for the Commanders, increasing his career regular-season sack total to 138.5 with his highest single-season mark in that category since 2021. He notched a sack in four of his last five games, but it remains to be seen if the Super Bowl 50 MVP wants to go out on that note or chooses to chase another championship by signing with a more competitive team in 2026.

Expected to join Commanders

Miller and the Commanders are finalizing terms of a one-year contract Wednesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Miller was released by the Bills in March but made clear that he wanted to continue his playing career. A short-term deal makes sense given that he's entering his age-36 season, as does the fact that he's joining a team that has a realistic chance of reaching the postseason. The Commanders had a relative weakness at edge and pass rush entering training camp, so Miller should be a significant lift to the unit after logging 6.0 sacks across 13 regular-season games in 2024.

Set to be released

The Bills are releasing Miller, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. After finishing 2023 with no sacks in 12 regular-season games, Miller enjoyed a bit of a bounce-back in 2024, recording 6.0 sacks over 13 regular-season contests. However, Buffalo is electing to cut ties -- at least temporarily -- with the veteran pass rusher in order to free up $8.4 million against the salary cap. That said, Rapoport notes that the Bills and Miller are both open to a reunion, so it's not yet certain that the soon-to-be 36-year-old will be with a new team next season.
