Armani Rogers: Breaking News

Cut with injury designation

The Bills waived Rogers (Achilles) with a non-football injury designation Thursday. Rogers suffered a torn Achilles tendon while training early March, resulting in his now being waived for Buffalo to clear up roster space ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft. The reserve tight end's road to recovery could be made more difficult by the fact that he previously suffered a torn Achilles in May of 2023.

Tears Achilles

Rogers tore his Achilles tendon while training Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. The 27-year-old inked a reserve/future contract with the Bills in January, but it now appears he won't have the opportunity to compete for a roster spot in 2025. Rogers' only in-game NFL experience came in 2022 with the Commanders, when he appeared in 11 regular-season games and caught five of his six targets for 64 yards. With Rogers out for the foreseeable future, the Bills' tight end room currently consists of Dawson Knox, Dalton Kincaid and Zach Davidson.

Getting look from Buffalo

The Bills signed Rogers to a reserve/future contract Friday. Rogers, who played quarterback in college before converting to a tight end upon going pro, originally signed with Washington as an undrafted free agent in 2022. He was a bit of a Cinderella story that season, opening the campaign on the Commanders' roster and catching five passes on six targets for 64 yards while rushing twice for 26 yards over 11 games. However, Rogers tore his Achilles in May of 2023 and hasn't played in an NFL game since, though he spent much of the 2024 campaign on Atlanta's practice squad. Rogers isn't eligible to play for Buffalo during the remainder of the postseason, but he'll be able to compete for a roster spot during training camp this summer.
