Sims was targeted five times and caught four passes for 42 yards across 17 games in the 2024 season. Sims appeared in every regular-season game the Packers played in 2024 and served as the backup tight end while Luke Musgrave missed 10 weeks, but he was mainly limited to blocking duties. The Packers know what they have in the third-year player, which bodes well for his chances of retaining a roster spot in 2025. However, chances are Green Bay will look to bring in at least another option behind starting tight end Tucker Kraft.
Sims was targeted twice and caught two passes for 38 yards in Sunday's 34-13 victory over the Cardinals. Sims took over the backup tight end spot with Luke Musgrave (ankle) landing on injured reserve, and he recorded his first two receptions of the season -- including a career-best 28-yard catch. Expect him to continue working as the No. 2 tight end behind Tucker Kraft until Musgrave is ready to return.
Sims played all seven of his snaps on special teams in the Packers' 34-29 loss to the Eagles on Friday. Outside of situations in which the Packers want to get an extra blocker on the field, Sims will likely struggle to find a role on offense while both of Green Bay's top two tight ends, Tucker Kraft and Luke Musgrave, are available. Sims appeared in all 17 regular-season games as a rookie in 2023 and finished with a 4-21-1 receiving line on six targets.
Sims caught one pass for 10 yards in Sunday's preseason game against the Broncos. After being blanked in Green Bay's first exhibition contest, Sims made at least a minor mark in his next opportunity. He sits third on the depth chart at his position with one preseason game to go.
