Caden Sterns: Breaking News

Announces retirement on Instagram

Sterns announced on social media Thursday that he's retiring from the NFL, Parker Gabriel of the Denver Post reports. Sterns hasn't played since suffering a season-ending injury in Week 1 of the 2023 season. The 25-year-old safety will finish his career with 49 tackles (36 solo) and two interceptions in 21 games for the Broncos. The paperwork to make his retirement official will likely be filed in the coming weeks.

Headed to Carolina

The Panthers claimed Sterns off waivers Tuesday, Kassidy Hill of the team's official site reports. Sterns was waived by the Broncos on Monday, and it didn't take long for the 2021 fifth-round pick to find a new home. The concern for Sterns has been his inability to stay on the field in his three-year career. He tore the patellar tendon in his knee in Week 1 of 2023, and he played in just five regular-season games in 2022. When healthy, Sterns will provide valuable depth at safety behind starters Jordan Fuller and Xavier Woods.
