Mitchell re-signed with the Colts on Thursday, Amanda Foster of the team's official site reports. The cornerback played on 225 defensive snaps across eight games with the Colts last year, recording 18 tackles (14 solo) and four pass breakups. Mitchell also spent time on Indy's practice squad and on the Browns in 2025. The 2023 fifth-round pick has played on more than 200 defensive snaps in all three of his NFL seasons.
Entering free agency
Mitchell (calf) will be an unrestricted free agent after he was not tendered by the Texans on Wednesday, per the NFL transaction report. Mitchell suited up for the Browns for the team's first two games of the 2025 regular season before being let go in late September. He caught on with the Colts in November and appeared in 10 regular-season games for Indianapolis, finishing with 18 tackles (14 solo) and four pass defenses. Mitchell served in a rotational role in the Colts secondary before he suffered a calf injury against the Texans in Week 18. The 2023 fifth-rounder should garner interest from teams looking to add depth in the secondary.
Exits with calf injury
Mitchell is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Texans due to a calf injury, Jane Slater of NFL Network reports. Mitchell is being evaluated by medical staff to determine whether he can return for the second half of Sunday's contest. Johnathan Edwards is in line for more snaps at outside corner for as long as Mitchell is sidelined.
