Reverts to injured reserve

Smith (undisclosed) reverted to the Jets' injured reserve Friday. Smith was not claimed off waivers and will now stay with the Jets on injured reserve for the 2026 season, barring an injury settlement. The free safety played 14 games last season, split between three separate teams, and is primarily a special teams contributor.

Sent to waivers

The Jets waived/injured Smith (undisclosed) on Thursday, per the NFL's official media site. Smith will revert to injured reserve Friday if he clears waivers. The 2023 fifth-round pick played 14 games among three teams last season, serving almost exclusively on special teams.

Headed to New York

Smith was claimed off waivers by the Jets on Wednesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Smith was cut loose by the Rams earlier in the week, but he has now found a new home in New York. The safety will operate as a top reserve option behind Malachi Moore against the Patriots on Sunday.
