The Patriots are reportedly bracing for the possibility that Barmore, who is on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list while being treated for blood clots, might not play this coming season, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com. Per Fowler, the team won't rush Barmore back, so the defensive tackle will continue to focus on his recovery and remain sidelined indefinitely. In his absence, the Patriots are expected to lean more heavily on interior linemen Davon Godchaux and Jeremiah Pharms, Adam London of NESN reports.

Remains out indefinitely
The Patriots are reportedly bracing for the possibility that Barmore, who is on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list while being treated for blood clots, might not play this coming season, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com. Per Fowler, the team won't rush Barmore back, so the defensive tackle will continue to focus on his recovery and remain sidelined indefinitely. In his absence, the Patriots are expected to lean more heavily on interior linemen Davon Godchaux and Jeremiah Pharms, Adam London of NESN reports.
Moves to NFI list
Barmore (illness) was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list Tuesday. Barmore is currently dealing with blood clots, which were discovered in late July. It's unclear what the timetable for a return is, but he will be eligible to return to action in Week 5 against the Dolphins.
Diagnosed with blood clots
In a statement released by the Patriots on Sunday, Barmore was treated by doctors over the weekend after being diagnosed with blood clots and there is no timetable for his return. It's a major blow for Barmore, who signed a four-year, $92 million contract extension with the Patriots in April after recording a career-high 8.5 sacks across 17 regular-season games in 2023. The good news for the 2021 second-round pick is that the blood clots were caught by doctors before they caused a serious issue on the field, but his status for the 2024 season is truly up in the air. If Barmore were to miss extended time, Armon Watts and Deatrich Wise could be candidates to start on New England's defensive front alongside Keion White, Davon Godchaux, Matthew Judon and Josh Uche.
Lands big extension in New England
New England signed Barmore to a four-year, $92 million extension Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. The deal contains $41.8 million guaranteed, per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. It's the largest non-Tom Brady contract handed out in Patriots history. A second-round pick in 2021, Barmore recorded a career-best 8.5 sacks last season after totaling just four across his first two years in the league. Barmore is a foundational piece along New England's defensive front.
