Eli Apple: Everything you need to know

The 49ers signed Apple to a reserve/future contract Tuesday. Apple caught on with the 49ers on the practice squad after being released during training camp in early August. The veteran corner appeared in two regular-season games for San Francisco, logging one solo tackle while serving mostly on special teams. Under a future contract, Apple will be a member of the 49ers' 90-man roster when the offseason officially starts Feb. 9.

Apple was released by the 49ers on Thursday. Apple lasted less than two weeks in the organization after signing with San Francisco following a tryout July 27. He'll look to latch on with another team during the preseason. The veteran cornerback has appeared in 102 regular-season games, split between the Giants, Saints, Panthers, Bengals, Dolphins and Chargers.

Apple and the 49ers agreed on a one-year contract Sunday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Apple joined the 49ers for a tryout Sunday, which ultimately resulted in a contract for the 29-year-old. The cornerback will battle with Tre Avery, Chase Lucas and Dallis Flowers, among others, for a spot on the team's 53-man roster in 2025.
