Detroit signed Tufele on Wednesday. Tufele appeared in 12 games in a depth role with the Jets in 2025, but now he's moving on to his third team in as many seasons. It looks like the Lions are going to be without veteran starter DJ Reader, so it's not hard to imagine Tufele earning a spot on the team's 53-man roster for 2026.
The Lions hosted Tufele (foot) for a visit Tuesday, per the NFL's transaction log. Tufele appeared in 12 regular-season games with the Jets last season, making two starts, but finished the campaign on injured reserve after recording 12 tackles (five solo) across 230 defensive snaps.
The Jets placed Tufele (foot) on injured reserve Friday, Susanna Weir of the Jets' official site reports. Tufele was unable to practice all week after suffering a foot injury in the Jets' Week 16 loss to the Saints. With the move to IR, the 26-year-old will finish the season with 12 tackles (five solo). Jowon Briggs and Khalen Saunders are expected to have expanded roles on the defensive line behind Harrison Phillips with Tufele out.
