Kearse missed last week's win over the Commanders due to a back injury but is now closer to returning to the field. If the 2016 seventh-round ends ups being able to versus the Seahawks on Thursday he should return to his starting spot at safety alongside Malik Hooker.
McCarthy noted that Kearse should participate in half of the reps during Sunday's walkthrough. He has been dealing with multiple injuries this season -- including a toe injury he sustained in Week 8 against the Rams -- and has not cracked 50 defensive snaps since Week 6. If he returns for Thursday's game, Kearse will slide back into the starting strong safety spot alongside Malik Hooker. Kearse has 47 tackles (30 solo), including 1.5 sacks, and an interception in 10 games this season.
Kearse was a non-participant at practice throughout the week, rendering this result unsurprising. In his absence, look for Israel Mukuamu to fill in at strong safety.
Kearse's absence on Tuesday's practice estimate is his second in a row. His status for Thursday's matchup with the Commanders is not looking good as of now, but more clarity will come following Wednesday's practice. Israel Mukuamu would be the likely candidate to fill in at strong safety if he is ultimately unable to go.
