Jerry Jacobs: Breaking News

Let go with injury settlement

The Rams waived Jacobs (undisclosed) with an injury settlement Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Jacobs did not suit up for the Rams' preseason game against the Chargers on Saturday. He played in 15 regular-season games with the Lions in 2023, finishing the season with a career-high 55 tackles (49 solo), eight passes defended and three interceptions. Once healthy, Jacobs will look to catch on with a team in need of depth in the secondary.

Signs, practices with Rams

The Rams officially signed Jacobs on Saturday, Nick Hamilton of SiriusXM reports. Jacobs' signing comes in the wake of Derion Kendrick's season-ending ACL tear and Darious Williams' hamstring strain. Jacobs practiced with the Rams on Saturday, per Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic, so he appears to be clear of the hamstring injury that caused him to finish last year on injured reserve. If Williams is unable to be ready for Week 1 of the regular season, Jacobs may need to step in to start.

Expected back for regular season

Head coach Dan Campbell indicated Tuesday that Jacobs (hamstring) should be ready to play at some point during the preseason, Jeff Risdon of WMAX-FM reports. Jacobs was unavailable for Detroit's postseason run after injuring his hamstring down the stretch of last season. Prior to initially getting banged up in Week 14 against Chicago, Jacobs was nearly an every-down player, albeit for a Lions defense that was much weaker against the pass than the run in 2023. While Jacobs is now set to become a restricted free agent, it sounds like Campbell expects him to stick around in 2024.
