Jody Fortson: Breaking News

Cleared to return to field

Forson (knee) has been cleared to resume playing and is ready to join a team, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Fortson tore the ACL and meniscus in his right knee while a member of the Chiefs last October. He ended the campaign on IR and became a free agent after the conclusion of the season. Fortson has now made a full recovery and appears to be on the lookout for his next opportunity. The 29-year-old has played in 22 career regular-season games, tallying 15 receptions on 21 targets for 160 yards and four touchdowns.

Suffered torn ACL, meniscus

Fortson (knee, IR) suffered a torn ACL and meniscus in the Chiefs' Week 8 win over the Raiders last Sunday, Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post reports. The nature of Fortson's right knee injury which landed him on injured reserve Monday was previously unknown, but it's safe to say the tight end's 2024 season is over with this news. Signed to Kansas City's 53-man roster on Oct. 4, Fortson appeared in three games for the Chiefs and caught one of his three targets for five yards across 40 offensive snaps.

Shifts to IR

The Chiefs placed Fortson (knee) on injured reserve Monday. Fortson played 18 offensive snaps and failed to catch his only target before exiting Sunday's win over the Raiders due to a knee injury. The Valdosta State product will now be forced to miss the Chiefs' next four games after being placed on IR, with his earliest possible return coming Nov. 29 against the Raiders. Kansas City's tight end room will consist of Travis Kelce, Noah Gray and Jared Wiley while Fortson spends at least four games on IR.
