Jordan Mims: Everything you need to know

San Francisco signed Mims to a one-year contract Thursday. Mims will now go to work with his third different team in as many years after spending the vast majority of last season on Tennessee's practice squad. While the 49ers' options at running back behind Christian McCaffrey are all unproven, 2025 fifth-rounder Jordan James, rookie third-rounder Kaelon Black and 2024 fourth-rounder Isaac Guerendo (pectoral) are all working with an advantage over Mims in terms of draft capital.

Mims reverted to the Titans' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log. Mims was elevated to the active roster prior to Sunday's 26-0 loss to the Texans, failing to log any snaps in the contest. The running back could earn another elevation in Week 5 if Tyjae Spears (ankle) isn't ready to return from injured reserve before the team's matchup with the Cardinals.

Mims was elevated from the Titans' practice squad to the active roster Saturday, Jim Wyatt of the team's official site reports. Kalel Mullings (ankle) was placed on injured reserve Friday and Tyjae Spears (ankle) has missed Tennessee's first three contests this season, so Mims' elevation provides much needed backfield depth. He's expected to play behind both Tony Pollard and Julius Chestnut in the Week 4 matchup against the Texans.
