Maurice Hurst: Everything you need to know

The Colts hosted Hurst (ankle) for a workout Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Hurst was limited to just eight regular-season games for the Browns in 2024, and he ended that campaign on injured reserve due to an ankle injury. He appears to have fully recovered from his injury, and the 2018 fifth-rounder is attempting to catch on with a team in need of depth at defensive tackle. The Colts could certainly add a player like Hurst, given that DeForest Buckner (neck) is on injured reserve and does not have a timeline for a return.

Hurst (ankle) recorded 16 total tackles, including 0.5 sacks, over eight games in 2024. The 29-year-old defensive tackle finished Cleveland's season on injured reserve, missing nine games due to an ankle injury. This appears to be a recurring theme for Hurst, who has now been sidelined for 45 regular-season games over the past four seasons in the NFL. Hurst played over 40 percent of the Browns' defensive snaps in three games this year, recording seven total tackles in those contests. He's now set to be an unrestricted free agent after signing a one-year, $1.8 million deal with Cleveland last offseason. Given his continued injury struggles, Hurst is likely to sign another one-year prove-it contract this offseason after missing more than half his team's games in 2024.

The Browns activated Hurst (ankle) off injured reserve Saturday, Kelsey Russo of the Browns' official site reports. Hurst hurt his ankle Week 1 against Dallas and was subsequently placed on injured reserve. He's since missed the required four games and had his practice window opened this past Wednesday. Hurst still carries a designation of questionable heading into Sunday, but he has a good chance of playing versus the Eagles after logging an LP/LP/FP practice progression this week.
