Locke is set to sign a one-year contract with the Cowboys, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Locke will ink a one-year deal worth up to $5 million as he moves from Colorado to Dallas. The free safety will likely compete for the starting role that Malik Hooker played in 2025 alongside strong safety Jalen Thompson. Locke is coming off an underwhelming year, where he played a majority of his snaps on special teams, but a change of scenery could allow the 29-year-old to break back into a starting position.

P.J. Locke: Breaking News
Finishes 2025 with 16 tackles
Locke recorded 16 tackles (nine solo) and three passes defensed in 16 games with Denver in 2025. Locke had an underwhelming 2025 campaign, recording his lowest tackle total since his sophomore campaign in 2021. The 28-year-old safety took a backseat to fellow safety Brandon Jones (pectoral) this season, leading to what was a down year for the veteran. Locke did play a prominent role on special teams for much of the season, playing more special teams snaps (197) than defensive snaps (173) for the first time since 2022. The Texas product is set to become an unrestricted free agent in the offseason, giving him the chance to test the market ahead of the 2026 campaign.
Good to go for divisional round
Locke (leg) was a full participant in Tuesday's practice. Locke suffered a leg injury during the Broncos' Week 18 win over the Chargers. He had an extra week to recover from the injury thanks to the Broncos' bye to the divisional round, and with his full pratice Tuesday, Locke is on track to play against the Bills on Saturday. He ended the 2025 regular season with 16 tackles (nine solo) and three pass defenses over 16 games while serving on both defense and special teams.
