Robert Woods Latest News
Little run in Week 1 win
Woods was not targeted over 12 snaps in Sunday's 29-27 win over Indianapolis in Week 1. Woods served at the back end of the depth chart along with second-year wideout Xavier Hutchinson, both of whom were allotted 12 snaps. Woods, a 12-year veteran, is coming off his statistically worst season and will operate as a fourth or fifth wideout unless injuries hit.
Paces receivers Friday
Woods caught all four targets for 42 yards in Friday's 20-12 preseason win over Pittsburgh. Woods made his preseason debut and led all Houston receivers in yards. If healthy, Woods is expected to be the team's fourth wideout.
Back at practice
Woods didn't practice Wednesday, but his return a day later hints at his absence being maintenance related. Thursday's injury report will reveal the wideout's participation level in the team's second practice ahead of Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
Absent for another practice
Woods hasn't practiced in any capacity following the Texans' Week 7 bye and appears on track to miss a second straight game Sunday against the Buccaneers. Look for Houston to officially rule Woods out for the Week 9 contest when the team releases its final injury report Friday. Woods' expected absence this weekend should pave the way for Tank Dell and Noah Brown to see steady playing time alongside No. 1 wideout Nico Collins in three-receiver sets.
Unlikely to play vs. Tampa Bay
Adam Schefter of ESPN reported over the weekend that Woods was expected to miss 2-to-3 weeks with the foot injury he carried into the Texans' Week 7 bye, and that recovery timeline still appears to be an accurate one. After sitting out the Texans' Week 8 win over the Panthers, Woods once again appears likely to be inactive for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, though the Texans haven't officially ruled the veteran receiver out for the Week 9 contest just yet. Official confirmation of Woods' status should come with the release of the team's final Week 9 injury report Friday, but it would be surprising if he managed to practice in any capacity before then. If Woods remains sidelined, Nico Collins, Tank Dell and Noah Brown should continue to play significant roles in a Houston offense that predominantly utilizes three-receiver sets.
Misses another practice
With Woods having missed two straight practices, Wilson indicates that, barring an unexpected change, the wideout is trending toward missing Sunday's game against the Panthers. If Woods is unavailable this weekend, Nico Collins and Tank Dell would be in line to lead the Texans' receiver corps.
