Oregon wide receiver Darren Carrington will miss Monday’s inaugural College Football Playoff National Championship Game against Ohio State for failing an NCAA drug test.

The redshirt freshman tested positive for marijuana.

Oregon coach Mark Helfrich confirmed the Carrington’s ineligibility Saturday morning to members of the media in Dallas:

“[I can] confirm it is an NCAA policy in play, and it is in effect for this game, and that’s all we are going to talk about it.”

Carrington did not make the trip from Eugene to Arlington, Texas, with his teammates.

Carrington had 37 receptions for 704 yards and 4 touchdowns, including 14 for 291 and 3 scores in the past 2 games, the Pac-12 Championship win over Arizona and the CFP semifinal victory over Florida State.

Ducks Heisman-winning quarterback Marcus Mariota added:

“It’s tough. [Carrington] is a big playmaker for us. Next guy up.”

The Ducks will also be without receiver Devon Allen, who injured his knee on the opening kickoff of the Rose Bowl. Allen led the team with 7 TD receptions.
