The most talked about unborn baby in the history of the NFL is finally here.
Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman and girlfriend Ashley Moss welcomed their first son, Rayden, into the world Thursday morning in a Seattle-area hospital.
Rayden was born February 5 – 2/5. Richard’s football number is 25.
The size of the newest Sherman is unknown at the time, but Baby Rayden has some athletic genes.
Whether the newborn is going to follow in his dad’s footsteps on the football field remains to be seen.
Sherman and his Seahawks teammates are coming off a crushing 28-24 loss to the Patriots in Super Bowl 49.
Here’s what you need to know about Sherman’s son:
The Child’s Name Is Rayden
We finally know the baby’s name. It’s Rayden.
Sherman and Moss had kept the baby’s name a secret from the public. Though Moss, in an exclusive interview with KING TV in Washington recently, did say the newborn would have the initials “R.K.S.” like his father, Richard Kevin Sherman.
It’s unknown what Rayden’s middle name is.
Moss’ Due Date Was February 12
Moss’ due date was February 12, but that didn’t stop rampant speculation the child could have been born on Super Bowl Sunday, which was February 1.
The couple had full support of the Seahawks organization if, in fact, Moss did go into labor during the game and Sherman had to make a decision to stay and play or go to the hospital for the birth.
Head coach Pete Carroll told reporters in Arizona before the Super Bowl:
Whenever our players have a personal or family issue that comes up, it’s always about family first and they have to decide what’s best for them, and I support that. We will support that decision.
Sherman said the media during Super Bowl week:
… I think he will be a disciplined young man and stay in there a while longer.
He was correct.
3. Sherman Received Congratulatory Tweets From Around The League
He might be a loudmouth on the field and rub some the wrong the way, but Sherman received a few congratulatory Tweets from other players around the league, including his quarterback and a former Legion of Boom member.
At the end of the Super Bowl it appeared Browner got into Sherman’s face and had words, but Browner Tweeted it was nothing:
4. There Has Been no Talk About Sherman & Moss Getting Married
Publicly at least, there has been no talk of Sherman and Moss getting engaged.
It’s probably a pretty busy time in their lives at the moment.
While it’s not known exactly how long Sherman and Moss have been dating, he began appearing on her Instagram and Twitter accounts in March of 2013 and has been a fixture in her social media life since.
5. Sherman Inked a $56 Million Extension In The Offseason
Seattle inked the All-Pro cornerback to a 4-year, $56 million contract extension last May.
Actually, the deal was signed May 7, 2014, nearly 9 months to the day Rayden was born.
With another mouth to feed, the pay raise should come in handy.
Sherman‘s deal runs through the 2018 season and $40 million of it is guaranteed.
