Blue Grass Stakes, Keeneland

Divining Rod won the Grade 3 $250,000 Coolington Lexington Stakes to earn 10 more points on the Road to the Kentucky Derby. Divining Rod won the race by almost three lengths.

The No. 6 horse Fame and Power ran a strong race, and led for most of the way until the stretch where he was briefly overtaken by the No. 7 horse Donworth. Both Fame and Power and Donworth dueled for a brief period of time, but Divining Rod was able to overtake each on the outside down the stretch, winning by a comfortable margin.

For the second consecutive weekend — the last weekend in the Road to the Kentucky Derby — Keeneland was a major spot of interest. The Lexington Stakes was the second-to-last last major stakes race before the Kentucky Derby three weeks from now.

The seven-horse field was made up of a lot of later entries and horses who were currently outside the top 20 in the Kentucky Derby standings:

Going in, the Lexington Stakes was probably the most wide-open of the five Stakes races held in the Road’s last two weekends. The last Lexington Stake’s winner that went on to win the Kentucky Derby was Charismatic in 1999.

Divining Rod was ridden by Julien Leparoux and trained by Arnaud Delacour. Here are the full race results:
