Serena Williams is just four successful sets of tennis away from completing the first Calendar Year Grand Slam in tennis for over 25 years. Having defeated older sister Venus in a topsy-turvy quarter finals on Tuesday, she now faces unseeded Italian Roberta Vinci in Thursday’s semis. Vinci has yet to face a seeded opponent in this year’s US Open, with Eugenie Bouchard having withdrawn from their 4th Round tie.

In the other semi final, second seed Simona Halep faces another Italian, Flavio Pennetta.
