Top 10 Best WWE Matches of 2015

WWE Royal Rumble 2015

There were some low points during 2015 for WWE. Plenty of wrestlers ended up on the injury list, Sheamus became the WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Big Show and Kane wouldn’t go away etc.

But at least there was a good amount of bright spots from the biggest wrestling fed on the planet. Most of the high spots (pun intended) that WWE delivered was through its finest matches. Superstars and Divas such as Brock Lesnar, John Cena, Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens, Sasha Banks and Bayley put on incredible bouts that are ripe for repeated viewings.

We sat through a year’s worth of matches and arrived with this list of the top 10 best WWE matches of 2015!

10. Charlotte vs. Sasha Banks vs. Becky Lynch vs. Bayley (NXT TakeOver: Rival)

All four of these Divas proved their worth as mainstays on the NXT brand this year. When they all competed in a 4-way dance for the NXT Women’s Championship, we were floored by how incredible their match was. Each of these ladies never slowed down as they exchanged suplexes, stiff strikes, planchas through and over the top rope and painful submissions. There were moments throughout this match where we thought Bayley was finally going to take the title home. But Sasha Banks truly outclassed her rivals. She handed out double knee strikes to Divas simultaneously and managed to roll up Charlotte, who was already being tortured by Sasha’s submission hold. This match was truly a coming out party for Miss Banks.

9. Adrian Neville vs. Finn Balor (NXT TakeOver: Rival)

The NXT brand showcased a great amount of standout matches in 2015. One of the less talked about ones that we think should get more praise is the initial meeting between Adrian Neville and Finn Balor. These two international talents went all out in a match that never seemed to slow down at any point. Neville was certainly game for Finn’s more demonic alter-ego, while Finn ran wild with his cool face paint in tow. We thought Neville was gonna pull off the win once he broke out the crazier top-rope maneuvers we know him for. Finn pulled off the perfect victory during this match and stuffed his boots into Neville from the air gracefully. We’re hoping to see these two men meet up again on the main roster.

8. Roman Reigns vs. Alberto Del Rio vs. Kevin Owens vs. Dolph Ziggler (RAW)

RAW might have been more boring than usual this year, but there were a few bouts here and there that were quality encounters. When Roman Reigns, Alberto Del Rio, Kevin Owens and Dolph Ziggler all met in the ring to determine Seth Rollins’ next challenger, magic ensued. The early moments of this Fatal 4-Way embodied the insane brawls we’re used to seeing. As the match wore on, the match entered into another plateau. The best moment of this match occurred when Reigns Superman Punched Rio on the top rope. That was followed up when Reigns got planted with a Ziggler Superkick, then Ziggler got launched across the ring with an Owens German Suplex. This great match finally came to an exciting close as Reigns staggered Owens with a Superman Punch and a finishing Spear. This was the best RAW main event of 2015.

7. Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar (WrestleMania 31)

It’s always a rare occasion when we start to feel sorry for Roman Reigns. He tends to the stronger aggressor during the majority of his matches. But on the night of WrestleMania 31, he ran into a brick wall named Brock Lesnar. This WWE World Heavyweight Championship main event stood out from the rest of the big match card. It’s unmatched brutality was the exact reason why. Brock pretty much assaulted Reigns for an extended period while the live pro-Lesnar crowd cheered on. When Brock was finally brought to his knees with Superman Punches, we were on the edge of our seats. Reigns’ comeback was exciting, but ultimately short lived thanks to his ex-Shield ally. The shocking ending involving Rollins cashing in his MITB title shot was completely unexpected. But before it went down, this match turned out to be even better than expected.

6. The New Day vs. The Usos vs. The Lucha Dragons (TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs)

The final PPV of the year featured the best opening bout of the year as well. These three teams are known for their flashy maneuvers, so we knew going in that they’d be able to pull out some amazing moves when ladders are involved. The New Day, The Usos and The Lucha Dragons didn’t disappoint. We have to hand it to The Lucha Dragons since they’re the MVP’s of this entire match. Watching one of the Uso brothers crash through a ladder thanks to Kalisto and then seeing that same twin get squashed with Sin Cara’s Senton Bomb right after was incredible. All three teams put on a destruction derby that was well worth watching. The New Day prevailed, but the other two teams who were involved deserve some praise for their participation.
