Who said Big East basketball was dead?

No. 1 Villanova and No. 5 Xavier face off on Wednesday night in a tilt that could help shape much more than the conference standings, in fact, it could help determine the latest mock bracket.

Xavier is looking for a bit of a homecourt advantage as the Musketeers look to take down Nova after falling 95-64 in earlier this season. That first game, however, was much more than the final score, characterized by Edmond Sumner’s scary fall and concussion just a few minutes into play.

Now, Sumner is back, Xavier is rolling and Villanova is trying to prove, once and for awhile, that this squad’s success isn’t a fluke.

Read on for all the details on the game, including how to live stream if you’re not going to be near a TV. Long live Big East basketball.

Xavier doesn’t like Villanova. Villanova doesn’t like Xavier. They play each other on Wednesday in a Big East tilt that has both squads on the national stage.

Since the Musketeers lost to ‘Nova in their Big East opener, allowing the Wildcats to score 26 points off turnovers, Xavier has gone 12-2 and enters the matchup ranked sixth in the NCAA’s RPI standings. Villanova, meanwhile, sits at No. 2, boasting a three-point attack that would rival just about any squad in the country. Plus, you know, Josh Hart is pretty good at this whole playing basketball thing.

So, is it possible for Xavier to pull off the qusi-upset at home? Sure. The Musketeers just need their big names to step up. That includes Trevon Bluiett and Edmond Sumner, both of whom earned Big East weekly awards on Monday.

Bluiett averaged 18 points and 5.5 rebounds in Xavier’s 2-0 week and continues to be a potent scorer. Sumner, meanwhile, shot 71.4 percent and was 11-for-11 from the free-throw line in both games. If those two are on their game tonight, Xavier may have a chance.
