WATCH: Australia Breaks World Record in Women’s 400m Freestyle Relay

Australia captured Olympic gold on Saturday night, breaking a world record in the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay to conclude the first official day of competition in Rio.

You can watch video of their impressive win above.

The final was expected to come down to Australia and the United States, and that turned out to be just the case, with world-record holder Cate Campbell taking on American superstar Katie Ledecky in the final 100 meters.

In the end, Campbell was simply too much for Ledecky, who is far more dominant at longer distances, pulling away down the stretch to help the Aussies break their own record with a time of 3:30.65.

The USA set a new American record en route to silver, while Canada earned bronze.
