Usain Bolt’s achievements are unprecedented. At just 29-years-old, the Jamaican sprinter is the fastest man ever timed, and holds the world record in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay. This Olympic games, Bolt will be gunning for the “triple triple”, which means he must win the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay for the third consecutive Olympics. But with all these successes, is Bolt too busy for a special someone? What’s the deal with his love life?
Read on to find out.
If Bolt does has a girlfriend, and it turns out that just may be the case, he is doing a very good job at hiding it. Though the 29-year-old hasn’t been photographed or seen with anyone since 2013, when he was linked to former Miss Jamaica, April Jackson, he told The Telegraph in July that he’s been in a relationship for the past two years. When pressed further, Bolt said, “…I’m not going to tell you who she is. I want to keep it small for now, because I know when it gets out there’s going to be a lot of things to say, and I told her she can handle it. Because I’ve been through the media. I understand how you guys are– especially the British media.”
The champion runner explained that he’s noticed a trend where athletes are pressured into marriage once they’re famous– it’s “like a rule”, he says. But Bolt doesn’t think that path is for him, and instead of dealing with what the media would have to say about his girlfriend, he’d rather put his energy into running. This doesn’t mean that Bolt won’t one day tie the knot. He told The Telegraph, “I want to get married. Because my parents are married. I’ve thought about it, but I know I’m not going to get married before 35, for sure.” Usain has revealed that he intends to retire after the 2017 World Championships, which could potentially be when we see him pop the question, to, well, whoever his secret girlfriend is.
And just who is Bolt’s ex-girlfriend, former Miss Jamaica? Were they serious? In 2013, Bolt and April Jackson enjoyed a four-month romance after meeting one another through mutual friends. Jackson, who resides in South London, would meet up with Usain when he visited the area. However, the sprinter’s busy schedule kept them from being together in the long-run. Jackson, who is former Miss Jamaica Universe and former Miss Jamaica UK, was born in England, and stands at an impressive 6-foot-0. She graduated as a valedictorian from Hillel Academy at Campion College, according to Loop Jamaica, and worked on The Apprentice as a project manager. Before dating the fastest man in the world, Jackson was linked to PR director Stephen Hector, who runs an all-inclusive resort company.
