When the Minnesota Vikings host the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday night, most fans will have their minds on Teddy Bridgewater.
The third-year quarterback went down with a torn ACL, including other structural damage, in practice Tuesday, ending his season.
Here is the Vikings official statement on Bridgewater:
Teddy Bridgewater suffered a non-contact injury today at practice. The injury was quickly identified as a dislocated knee. The injury was stabilized, and he was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and evaluation. After undergoing an MRI, it was determined that Teddy suffered a complete tear to his ACL and other structural damage. Fortunately, there appears to be no nerve or arterial damage. Surgical repair will be scheduled within the next few days. Although the recovery time will be significant, we expect Teddy to make a full recovery. I would like to thank all of the medical professionals and our athletic training staff for all of their help today. Teddy has already displayed the attitude needed to overcome this injury and attack his rehab.
Shaun Hill enters the season as the new No. 1 QB. The other quarterbacks on the roster are the unproven Joel Stave and Taylor Heinicke. Over the next few days you can expect the Vikings to explore other options at the position when teams begin cutting players and more quarterbacks become available. All 53-man rosters must be set by Saturday at 4 p.m. Eastern.
Thursday night’s game kicks off at 8 p.m. Eastern from the brand new U.S. Bank Stadium. The game will be shown in the Vikings and Rams markets. You can see a list of the TV stations airing the game below.
First overall pick Jared Goff could get his first career start. He has backed up starter Case Keenum for the first three games. Keenum will likely get the call in Week 1 of the regular season, so it’s doubtful he’ll play Thursday night.
