Former WWE superstar Alberto Del Rio said this week that he was attacked by a knife-wielding man and was left with serious injuries.

It was recently reported that Del Rio did not show up for a AAA event in Mexico, sparking a lot of questions among fans about what exactly happened. A statement released on Monday by Del Rio states that he was eating in a restaurant before his flight when he was assaulted by a man with a knife. The statement goes on to say that Del Rio fought the man off and received several lacerations on his arm and elsewhere on his body.

Del Rio posted the following graphic images of his injuries on Instagram, showing stabbing wounds on his arm and head:

Despite the injuries, Del Rio says he will get back into the ring by this weekend.

We don’t yet know anything about the criminal who attacked Del Rio, nor is it clear at this time if police made an arrest. Del Rio does say in his statement that police were called by witnesses to the attack and that he was unable to make his flight to Mexico because he was at the police department.

Alberto Del Rio, whose real name is Jose Alberto Rodriguez, is a former WWE wrestler who left the company in early September 2016. He now works various matches in the independent circuit, wrestling under the ring name Alberto el Patron.
