Lady Gaga is the headlining performer for the 2017 Super Bowl Halftime Show and the announcement came in September 2016. The singer posted the big reveal on Instagram, writing, “It’s not an illusion. The rumors are true. This year the SUPER BOWL goes GAGA.” Lady Gaga is known for her powerful singing voice and her over-the-top performances, so fans are looking forward to seeing what Gaga has in store for her halftime show. There were previously rumors that Gaga would take her performance to the roof of the stadium and it looks like this may actually happen. Read on for details on Gaga’s halftime performance, her latest acting gigs and what she may have in store for the Super Bowl.

1. Last Year, Gaga Performed the National Anthem at the Super Bowl

This is not Lady Gaga’s first time performing at the Super Bowl, though it is her first time as as a headliner for the halftime show. Just last year, Gaga performed the National Anthem at the beginning of the Super Bowl. This year, country singer Luke Bryan has the privilege of carrying out this task. Last year, when it was announced that Gaga was singing The National Anthem, she told the NFL:

I’ve always wanted to sing the National Anthem at a major sporting event since I was a little girl, and for it to be the Super Bowl, it is the ultimate. This is one of the highest honors of my career.

Gaga went on to say that she thinks the occasion is what being American is all about. At the time, she said that she had to live up to a song that has stood the test of time, which means forgetting about yourself and focusing on the music.

When Gaga performed the National Anthem, she donned a shimmering red lurex suit that was tailor-made by Gucci. She also had star-spangled shoes on her feet and red glitter eyeshadow on her eyelids. Even her nails were patriotic. Gucci’s Creative Director Alessandro Michele wrote on Instagram:

When Gaga asked me to create an outfit for the #SuperBowl50, I was very honored and I went for red, pure energy for an energetic woman performing on an energizing event.

In terms of her outfit for her halftime performance, Gaga has said:

What I would say to those who are terrified that I’ll never again embrace absurdity or the avant-garde is ‘think again.’

Gaga is known for wearing crazy ensembles in her performances, from wearing raw meat to sporting barely-there outfits. We’ll have to see what she has in store for her halftime show wardrobe.

2. Beyonce And Tony Bennett Have Been the Subject of Super Bowl Guest Performer Rumors

Beyonce has appeared during Super Bowl halftime a few times. She has been a headliner as well as a guest performer and just recently, she announced on Instagram that she and husband Jay-Z are expecting twins. With a photo that showcases her growing belly, Beyonce wrote the following caption:

We would like to share our love and happiness. We have been blessed two times over. We are incredibly grateful that our family will be growing by two, and we thank you for your well wishes. – The Carters

In the past, Beyonce and Gaga have collaborated on “Video Phone” and “Telephone,” but, Beyonce is gearing up for Coachella, the Grammy Awards, and twins, so do we really think she’ll be performing at the Super Bowl too? When Lady Gaga posted a photo with a little bee emoji on her Instagram, it definitely got the Beyhive buzzing, according to Refinery29.

In addition to Beyonce, there are reports that Tony Bennett will introduce Gaga’s Super Bowl performance with a video message. When asked about the rumor, Gaga told Us Weekly that:

Tony, you know, is the best there is, and if he was in it, it would be fantastic.

When it comes to talking about her big halftime show, Gaga has explained that:

I don’t want to say anything or give away anything specifically about what you will see during the halftime show because I don’t want to ruin the surprise for everyone else. But I will tell you that it’s going to be fantastic.

If Tony Bennett’s involvement would be “fantastic” and Gaga says her show will be “fantastic,” then is it safe to say the Bennett rumors are true?

In an interview with Boston’s Mix 104.1 radio show Karson & Kennedy, Lady Gaga revealed that it was actually her younger sister Natali Germanotta, who had the idea to perform on the roof of the Stadium at the Super Bowl. Gaga exclaimed:

My sister was like, ‘I know, let’s suspend you in the air!’

According to Teen Vogue, Gaga’s sister is a fashion student at Parsons The New School for Design and she actually had a small cameo in Gaga’s music video “Telephone.” As for Germanotta’s future plans, she has said:

For now, I’d like to stay in school … For me, college is less about getting drunk and more about learning what you need for your career.

Germanotta also added that:

Ever since we were kids, my parents gave us the freedom to be ourselves.

As far as Germanotta’s idea for her big sister performing on the roof of Houston’s NRG Stadium, Gaga will suspended 265 feet above the playing field, according to Houston Architecture.

4. Acting Has Been Her First Love

Last year, Lady Gaga won a Golden Globe Award for her acting performance on the series American Horror Story as The Countess. She revealed in her acceptance speech that:

This is one of the greatest moments of my life … I wanted to be an actress before I wanted to be a singer, but singing worked out first.

Gaga’s role as The Countess was a sexually-charged vampire with a tale of sorrow. She brought pain and anguish to many on the show, creating a house of horrors at the Hotel Cortez. When talking about her role on the show in an interview with Billboard, Gaga said:

I wanted to create something extremely meaningful by exploring the art of darkness. The reason I love watching horror films, mysteries and documentaries about crime is that it somehow numbs me from the pain I experience in my own life.

Gaga actually cold-called show creator Ryan Murphy for the part, as Gaga recalls:

I told him I wanted a place to put all of my anguish and rage and that I was excited to play a killer.

Gaga went on to also appear in the next season of the series, titled American Horror Story: Roanoke.

5. Her Latest Album “Joanne” Is Sure to Be Featured In the Halftime Show

In the past, Gaga has really embraced her body, whether she fluctuates or remains fit in her weight. But, she’s reported to be working out every day in preparation for the Super Bowl performance and she’s showcased some of this on her Instagram account. When talking to Us Weekly about some of the other preparation that goes into the show, Gaga stated:

There’s a lengthy process to go through, meeting with the NFL and sort of applying and discussing what you would do in the first place. I think that part of how they decide who is going to come and do the halftime show is based on our ideas and what we want to do. They were really excited about the show we wanted to put on. They’ve been super-supportive. They’ve been there every day at the rehearsal space with us and cheering me on as I rehearse. It’s been great.

Gaga’s most recently released album is titled “Joanne” and Us Weekly has revealed that the day after her Super Bowl performance, she will be announcing her Joanne World Tour. Her last tour was the Cheek to Cheek Tour she executed with Tony Bennett.

Footage of dancers rehearsing choreography for Gaga’s song “Bad Romance” has also been released on Instagram, leading up to the Super Bowl.
