WrestleMania 33 is now mere hours away. We’ve known what the card is for a few weeks now, but what hasn’t been clear is which match will close the show. Now, we’re getting a better idea of what the main event of WrestleMania 33 will likely be.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter via Reddit, the main event of WrestleMania is expected to be the match between Roman Reigns and The Undertaker. Meltzer reported that this will be the main event “almost for sure.”

The second-to-last match is then expected to be the Universal Championship match between Goldberg and Brock Lesnar. There was evidently some debate within the company about which match of these two should close the show, but the WWE has apparently decided on the Roman Reigns vs. The Undertaker match. However, this order is of course still subject to change.

If the Roman Reigns vs. The Undertaker match does end up being the main event, this will be the first time in five years that WrestleMania has not closed with a match in which a championship title is on the line. The last time that happened was WrestleMania 28, when the main event was The Rock vs. John Cena. This was the year that the match between The Rock and John Cena was advertised as being “once in a lifetime,” even though the very next WrestleMania closed with the exact same match.

This would also make WrestleMania 33 the third WrestleMania in a row to feature Roman Reigns in the main event. Last year, the main event was Roman Reigns vs. Triple H, and the year before that, it was Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar. It has been rumored that next year’s main event will also be a Roman Reigns match.

The fact that this match is going to be the main event has added to the speculation that this will be The Undertaker’s final WrestleMania. It has not been announced as such, but Mark William Calaway underwent surgery a few months ago and has reportedly been in a lot of pain lately. On WWE television itself, the idea of this being the end of The Undertaker’s career has been a topic of discussion, with Roman Reigns declaring that he will retire The Undertaker.

The theory among a lot of fans is that Roman Reigns will defeat The Undertaker at WrestleMania 33, setting up a match between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns, the only two people to ever defeat The Undertaker at WrestleMania.

WrestleMania 33 will air on Sunday, April 2nd beginning at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time on the WWE Network.
