At WrestleMania 33 tonight, John Cena proposed to his girlfriend and fellow WWE superstar, Nikki Bella. Will this be John Cena’s first time getting married? Or has he been married before?
John Cena has been married once before. On July 11th, 2009, Cena married Elizabeth Huberdeau, his high-school sweetheart. They were married for about three years and were divorced on July 18th, 2012.
TMZ later reported that Cena says part of the reason the marriage fell apart was because of a house remodeling that was causing a lot of strife between the two of them.
In fact, TMZ reported that one of the contractors filed a lien on the house for $110,000. Elizabeth Huberdeau was apparently blindsided when Cena filed for divorce, and there were some rumors that Cena may have cheated on her, although there was never any concrete proof of this one way or another.
“Liz also said she believed Cena was messing around with other women behind her back,” TMZ reported. “But now, Liz’s attorney, Raymond Rafool, tells TMZ the two have managed to work things out privately … saying, “All matters [in the divorce] have been settled and resolved amicably.”
While he was dating Nikki Bella, John Cena repeatedly said on Total Divas and Total Bellas that he did not want to get married, not because of what he went through with is ex-wife, but because he doesn’t want to have kids again.
“Would I love to marry you? Absolutely. I love you” Cena said on an episode of Total Divas. “…What I’m afraid of, and this is the one thing I’m very much afraid of, if we were to get married tomorrow, and then you come to the conclusion that you want children, you know where I stand. In no way would I ask you to sacrifice anything for me.”
Nikki Bella has also been married once before; she revealed on an episode of Total Divas that she married her high school sweetheart at the age of 20, but they were divorced three years later.
