Renee Young and Dean Ambrose are married.
Young announced this on her Twitter profile on Wednesday morning, saying that marriage is nice and thanking everyone for their kind words.
Young and Ambrose are revealing this information only after it was exposed on an episode of Talking Smack, and it seems that they did not want the information to go public. This week, fans began to notice that Dean Ambrose and Renee Young were both wearing new rings on their fingers.
But there had been absolutely no mention of a wedding or an engagement on Young’s social media profiles, leading fans to assume that the two wanted to get married out of the public eye.
However, on Talking Smack this week, Kevin Owens outed Young and Ambrose. Not long after he came on the show, Owens said congratulations to Renee Young. He came quite close to dropping the word “wedding,” but he did not quite go there; it was unclear whether Owens was legitimately unsure whether this was something he was allowed to talk about, or if he knew it was something Young was avoiding but he confronted her with it anyway.
“By the way, congratulations,” Owens said. “You know why I’m saying congratulations? Right? Am I…is this a thing?”
As soon as Kevin Owens began to go there, Shane McMahon told Owens that they’re not talking about it. This did not immediately appear to be an angle for the show; normally, the drama of this awkward situation would be played up for the cameras, leading to some sort of a confrontation and to someone storming off the set. Instead, Young just looked genuinely upset and uncomfortable, and she quickly transitioned into another topic.
“Congratulations on you coming here to SmackDown, that’s what we need to be talking about,” Young said.
Earlier in the show, Dolph Ziggler had also referenced Renee Young’s marriage and specifically her wedding ring, asking her, “What’s on your finger?” She quickly said “Nothing” and moved on.
Renee Young and Dean Ambrose have been dating since October 2013. Young has said that there wasn’t really one specific moment when sparks began to fly, but from the beginning they just got along well behind the scenes, and it blossomed into a romance.
“I don’t even know if I can pinpoint exactly what it was,” Young told Channel Guide Mag. “It was like instantly we were together. We were always talking to each other. We were always spending all of our time together. It just kind of happened. We just caught each other’s eye and were always around each other.”
Young and Ambrose were secretive about their relationship for quite some time, even as rumors began to fly that they were dating. It was not until May 2015 when Young finally confirmed the relationship. Even after this point, however, the two remained private, not posting too many photos of themselves together on social media as many WWE couples do.
We’ve gotten a better sense of their relationship, however, on the most recent season of Total Divas. As documented on that show, the two live together in a nice house in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Unfortunately, Ambrose and Young were split apart in the superstar shake up, with Ambrose going to Raw and Young staying on SmackDown Live. However, Young still attends every Raw show, and so she will still be seeing Ambrose at work.
