WWE ‘Payback’ 2017 Card: All of the Matches Announced So Far

WWE Payback 2017

The next WWE pay-per-view event is ‘Payback,’ which will air on April 30th, 2017. (WWE.com)

Payback, the first WWE pay-per-view following WrestleMania, will be taking place on Sunday, April 30th.

That’s still a few weeks away, but this week on Raw, viewers were given a tease of that pay-per-view, with four matches for the night being officially announced.

Here’s a look at the Payback card so far.

Randy Orton vs. Bray Wyatt

One major match that will be taking place at Payback is this match between Randy Orton and Bray Wyatt, a rematch for the WWE World Championship.

Nobody expected that this rematch would not take place at a SmackDown-branded event, but on April 10th, Bray Wyatt was drafted to Monday Night Raw. He will now be taking on Randy Orton at a Raw-branded event.

Randy Orton himself was not drafted to Raw.

This match will be something called a “House of Horrors” match. Nobody really knows what that is, but Bray Wyatt said on SmackDown Live last week that it would push Randy Orton to his limits.

Chris Jericho vs. Kevin Owens

Another rematch that will be taking place is this one between Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho for the United States Championship.

This is, of course, a rematch following Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho’s match at WrestleMania 33, during which Chris Jericho lost the United States Championship to his former best friend.

On April 3rd’s Raw, Kevin Owens attacked Chris Jericho backstage, and Jericho was so seriously injured that he could not compete later that night. Then, on April 10th’s Raw, Chris Jericho attacked Owens at the conclusion of the show.

Chris Jericho is expected to take a hiatus from the WWE after this match.

Sheamus & Cesaro vs. The Hardy Boyz

The third match that has been announced for Payback is a Tag Team Championship match between The Hardy Boyz and Sheamus and Cesaro.

The Hardy Boyz, of course, won the WWE Raw Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania 33. They won it immediately upon returning to the company following a lengthy hiatus.

Unlikely the other two matches, this one doesn’t really involve payback that much. Cesaro and Sheamus don’t really have a score to settle with The Hardy Boyz; they just won a match to become the number one contenders, and they hope to become two-time tag team champions.

Neville vs. Austin Aries

Finally, the last match that has been announced for Payback is between Austin Aries and Neville.

This is another rematch from WrestleMania 33; at that event, Austin Aries and Neville faced off on the kickoff show, with Neville winning and staying the Cruiserweight Champion.

On Raw this week, Neville seemed to recruit TJ Perkins to his side, with Perkins defeating Austin Aries in a match and then attacking him afterwards.
